（1551—1624）江西吉水人，字尔瞻，号南皋。万历五年进士。同年，以疏论张居正夺情，得罪，廷杖戍贵州都匀卫。居戍所六年，研治理学有成。居正死，召拜吏科给事中，以敢言称。历官南京吏部员外郎，以母丧归。家居讲学几三十年，名扬天下。天启初还朝，进刑部右侍郎，拜左都御史。虽首进和衷之说，不为危言激论，仍为魏忠贤所忌。以建首善书院讲学事，为魏党所攻，被迫辞归。卒谥忠介。有《愿学集》。
