译文
哪怕我伏低做小，哪怕我装痴卖傻，我不想沾惹是非，麻烦却自来缠扰。既然如此，让它去吧，任从摆布，看能把我怎么了！你不见老天爷尚且顾此失彼，“妨害农事”的罪名左右难逃：下雨吧，阴阴冷冷，坏了蚕桑；放晴吧，日头高照，干了禾苗。阴也犯了过，晴也不讨巧，真不知如何才好！

落：衰朽。
着莫：撩惹，沾惹。
妨农过：妨碍农时的罪过。
山坡羊·伏低伏弱鉴赏
小令用尖刻的笔触，揭露封建社会人们动辄得咎，常遭横祸的现实，以及百姓无可奈何的处境，后半以天公为例，是一种调侃的手法，更进一步讽刺了社会黑暗。
这首小令以自嘲的口吻，吐诉出处世艰难、一筹莫展的愤慨。即使伏低做小，装痴作傻，还是躲不开“是非”的“着莫”，动辄得咎。“蚕怕雨寒苗怕火”的构思，出自苏东坡的《泗州僧伽塔》：“耕田欲雨刈欲晴，去得顺风来者怨。若使人人祷辄遂，造物应须日千变。”但苏诗是说矛盾的两极要求至少还能满足一方，也就是“造物”还有百分之五十的周旋余地；而本篇中则阴，也是错；晴，也是错，一无是处。连“天公”也要无端蒙冤，更不用说民间的平头百姓。“出门即有碍，谁谓天地宽？！”（孟郊《追赠崔纯亮》）作品正是以不露声色的议论，表现出同样激越的不平之情。
以冷语峻笔作嬉笑怒骂，是元散曲讽世作品的常法。乔吉有首《山坡羊》就明显模仿了本篇：“装呆装琳，装聋装口吞，人生一世刚图甚。句闲吟，酒频斟，白云梦绕青山枕，看遍洛阳花似锦。荣，也在恁。枯，也在恁。”

陈草庵（1245——约1330），名英，字彦卿，号草庵，大都（今北京市）人，生平事迹不详，元代散曲作家。曾任监察御史，中丞等职。现存小令二十六首。元·钟嗣成《录鬼簿》称其“陈草庵中丞”，名列前辈名公之中。孙楷第《元曲家考略》以为陈草庵名英，曾任宣抚，延初拜河南省左丞。门岿继考其人，名英，字彦卿，号草庵，析津（今北京）人。元代张养浩《云庄类稿》卷九《析津陈氏先茔墓碑铭》引陈英自述，叙其家世及任职历程甚详（见《元曲百家纵论》第七三页），可备一说。其存曲多愤世嫉俗之作。
