中年鉴赏
这首诗写的是作者人到中年后的一些感受。郑谷当时寓居长安，面临着新春的到来。漠漠秦云（长安旧属秦地），淡淡天色，正是西北春天的典型景象。望见这个景象，诗人自然会想到，又一个春天降临人间。但随即也会浮起这样的念头：跟着时光推移，自己的年岁不断增添，如今是愈来愈品尝到中年的滋味了。
中年，往往是人的一生中哀乐感受最深切的时候。青春已逝，来日几何，瞻前顾后，百感交集。诗中不作过多的描述，只是抓住对花无语、借酒浇愁两个细节，就把那种思绪满怀的复杂心理状态烘托出来了，笔墨经济而又含蓄。
那么，诗人究竟在想些什么呢？底下一联为我们略作提示。“故第”，即旧时的住宅。寻找故第，只见苔色满墙，斑驳难认，意味着追怀平生，遗踪恍然。“春田”，指家乡的农田。由连夜雨声，触发起春田的忆念，暗示要弃官归隐，安度余生。上句是回顾，下句是展望，正体现了人到中年时的典型思想活动。作者借故第、春田、苔色、雨声等事物反映出来，形象鲜明而又富于概括力。
然而，往事既不可追，来日也未必可期；现实的处境一时难以摆脱，衰迟的年华更无情地逐日而去。在这样的矛盾交织之中，除了翻出旧诗稿来修改几遍，琢磨一下自己作诗的技巧，还能用什么方法来排遣心头的烦恼呢？结末两句表面说的“自喜”，实际是在年事虚长、无所作为情况下的自我安慰。透过外在的平静气氛，分明可以体会到诗人那种强自压抑下的无聊索寞心绪。
郑谷的诗以轻巧流利见称，反映生活面不广，从本篇也可以得到验证。此诗涉及中年的苦闷，虽不无时代政治的投影，而主要仍限于个人的感兴，社会意义不大。但文笔清新，思致宛转，尤善于用简炼明白的语言表达凝蓄深沉的情思，在其作品中亦属上乘。

郑谷（约851～910）唐朝末期著名诗人。字守愚，汉族，江西宜春市袁州区人。僖宗时进士，官都官郎中，人称郑都官。又以《鹧鸪诗》得名，人称郑鹧鸪。其诗多写景咏物之作，表现士大夫的闲情逸致。风格清新通俗，但流于浅率。曾与许裳、张乔等唱和往还，号“芳林十哲”。原有集，已散佚，存《云台编》。
