译文
昔日的吴王宫里，柳色总比别处深，一簇簇鹅黄的细丝，如阳光洒下万缕黄金。
不服那钱塘的苏小小，她为什么哟，偏偏要去松树下，与情郎缔结同心。
注释
吴王宫：此指吴王夫差为西施所造的馆娃宫，今江苏苏州西南灵岩山上有灵岩寺，即其故址。色偏深：指柳树多而色浓郁。
万缕金：指柳枝上初发嫩芽，似万缕金黄。
“不愤”二句：意谓真是不服气为什么钱塘的苏小小要在松树之下与心上人结同心。不愤，不平，不服气。苏小小，南齐时钱塘名妓，才倾士类，容华绝世，其家院多柳。古乐府《苏小小歌》：“妾乘油壁车，郎骑青骆马。何处结同心，西陵松柏下。”

杨柳枝五首·其二鉴赏
这首词是借柳咏情。一、二句写柳色，一簇簇，一条条，如缕如金，形象娩媚。三、四句是借题发挥，写柳色与松色一样，而苏小小偏偏要在松下与郎定情，却不在柳下，对此，一般有情之物都将怪怨苏小小厚此薄彼。而词中的柳却“不愤”，可见柳之宽厚温柔，能对苏小小之情的体谅。从咏柳中，也称道了人的情操。
此词提到馆娃宫和苏小小，周啸天教授认为是说苏州之柳胜于钱塘，似乎与白居易的《杨柳枝》词唱着反调。前两句是说吴王宫柳非常繁富。后两句是说，要是钱塘的柳色更好，苏小小就不会约郎到松柏之下去“结同心”了。周啸天把“不愤”解为不服，认为词人是根据古乐府《苏小小歌》，对白词进行了反讽，词意是说苏州宫柳胜于杭州。
不过，这首词的意味还不止于此。它留有丰富的想象余地。杨柳枝柔，本来是可以绾作同心结的，但苏小小却和她的GREn/ target=_blank class=infotextkey>情人为何不来柳下。刘禹锡《杨柳枝》“御陌青门拂地垂，千条金缕万条丝。如今绾作同心结，将赠行人知不知？”原来柳下结同心，乃有与GREn/ target=_blank class=infotextkey>情人分别的寓意。而松柏岁寒后凋，是坚贞不渝的象征，自然GREn/ target=_blank class=infotextkey>情人们愿来其下结同心而作山盟海誓了。如果作者有将宫柳暗喻GREn/ target=_blank class=infotextkey>宫人之意的话，那么“不愤钱塘苏小小，引郎松下结同心”就不但不是贬抑，反倒是是羡慕乃至嫉妒了。

牛峤，字松卿（约公元890年前后在世），一字延峰，陇西人。生卒年均不详，约唐昭宗大顺初前后在世。乾符五年（公元878年）进士及第。历官拾遗，补尚书郎，后人又称“牛给事”。以词著名，词格类温庭筠。原有歌诗集三卷，今存词三十三首，（见《花间集》）诗六首。
