单枪匹马的典故

秦王朝灭亡后，项羽的楚军是最强大的，可是在与汉军争夺中，渐渐走了下坡路。

公元前２０２年，项羽在垓下被汉军包围。项羽的人马少，粮食也没了。夜里从汉营里传来楚歌声，项羽伤心地唱道：“力气拔山盖世，可是时机不利，乌骓马不肯跑。马儿不肯跑，我们该怎么办？虞姬啊虞姬，我们该怎么办？” 半夜项羽突围，逃到东城时，只剩下二十八个士兵，但是追兵却有几千。 项羽说：“我起兵八年，打过七十多场仗，从来没有输过。今天这是老天要亡我！” 逃到乌江，乌江的亭长有只船，可渡一人一马，可是项羽说：“当初八千子弟随我渡江，今天只有我一个人回去。又有什么脸面见江东父老！” 最后项羽刎颈乌江边。

五代诗人汪遵写道：“在兵败、弓折、威风扫地后，项羽单枪匹马杀出重围，江东已经可以看见了，可是却不能回去，英雄虽然不在了，可是他羞愧的面容忧在。”
