五代时期，梁朝名将“王铁枪”王彦章跟随梁太祖朱温南征北战，屡立战功，深受重用。梁末帝朱贞继位后，唐军进攻梁国。王彦章受命御敌，但因寡不敌众被俘。唐庄宗劝王彦章归降。王彦章说：豹死留皮，人死留名，宁死不降。不久就被杀害。
